Have you wondered if gum disease affects your overall health? Or if treatment for gum disease is painful? Perhaps you've pondered if tooth loss is a natural part of aging?
On Monday, Dr. Tom Pinnavaia appeared on Charlotte Today to discuss gum disease with host Colleen Odegaard and discussed these questions - and a lot more, while helping debunk many myths that exist out there.
Before you start believing in the myths about gum disease and your overall health, we encourage you to check out this video. And, as always, feel free to give us a call at (704) 375-8577 to schedule an appointment. We hope you're having a great week!

Yes, there is a connection between your oral health and your overall health
At My Dentists, our experienced doctors will tell you that your oral health relates to much more than just having perfectly-aligned teeth. In fact, according to a recent study by the British Columbia Dental Hygienists' Association, periodontal disease is linked to not only to your oral health, but also the health of other bodily functions. While we know that proper oral hygiene is important for many everyday functions, such as eating, talking and kissing, new correlations have now been found linking poor oral health and cardiovascular disease, diabetes, respiratory problems and other diseases.
Gum disease (also called periodontal disease) is an infection of the tissues that support your teeth. It is a major cause of tooth loss in adults. Because gum disease is usually painless, you may not know you have it. At each regular checkup, our dedicated staff will measure the depth of the shallow v-shaped crevice (called a sulcus) between your tooth and gums to identify whether you have gum disease.
Have you been brushing, flossing and visiting our team at My Dentists on a regular basis? If not, please give us a call at (704) 375-8577! At our convenient Charlotte location, we'll provide an oral exam to check the health of your mouth, teeth, gums, cheeks and tongue.
Have a great week, and we encourage you to read the rest of the article!

Ask My Dentists: What's the difference between a dentist and a cosmetic dentist?

Our staff at My Dentists like to tell our patients that at our office, you get two dentists for one (well, three, actually!). You get the care and attention to your good oral health that any good general dentist provides. But on top of that, you get dentists in Drs. Michalski, Yeager and Pinnavaia who understand the impact of a bright smile and straight teeth.
Cosmetic dentists undergo extra training to stay on the leading edge of restorative techniques. We can whiten teeth, perform implants, add veneers and even straighten minor crooked teeth with Invisalign's clear aligners. All the while, we’re keeping an eye on your dental health. Your teeth will be in great shape, and your smile will be stunning! Our doctors focus on creating an office atmosphere where you and your family will feel welcome and relaxed. Our patients choose us because they know that they are going to receive the best dental care possible, and they trust that we will do whatever it takes to bring a smile to their faces!
The doctors and our talented staff have been creating beautiful smiles in Charlotte since 1983, and would love to build a winning smile for you as well! Give us a call at (704) 375-8577 to schedule an appointment.
We hope you're having a wonderful summer!
